Mental Illness
April battles with mental disorders and anxiety disorders which can greatly impair her life. These are her honest words about how her mind feels at different moments in her life. She continues to stay strong even when she feels like she has had enough. Praise the Lord she is still standing!
The ultimate goal of being brutally honest in her poetry is to help others who can relate not feel so alone and lessen the stigma of mental illness.
If you battle with any mental illness, please know you are not alone. Treatment such as medication and talk therapy help me so much.
God Bless!

Somewhere,
Back there,
She was seized
Demolished and eradicated
That compassion
Her spirit
The fight
Her confidence
Missing
Absent
Suffocated
Her beautiful temple
Wanders the planet
Seeking acceptance
Seeking success
Filled with a replacement
Memories haunt
Tears drown
Self-acceptance turns to self-hatred
Judgment scares
Fear engulfs
Reality is unknown
Her eyes watch
That person rule
Uncontrolled
Misunderstood
Captive in that temple
Broken and damaged
Exhausted, She fights
Periodically, Settling from defeat
Knowing she needs to break free
Unsure how that looks
She educates herself
Someday she will find her way out
Someday she will be free
Someday reality will be known
Someday self-acceptance will be found
Someday the loose ends will be tied
Someday, hopefully soon

I'm finding myself again
I've been lost for so long
I don't know who I am
Will I make it?
Can I survive?
How did I ever do it alone?
I'll shine again
Lighting the way for others
Succeeding at what I do
That's what I've always done
Despite obstacles I keep fighting
I have someplace to be
I don't know where I'm going
I do know, I'll be strong when I get there
I'll find that happiness again

There she was
Lying quietly
Beautiful and flawless
Sleeping, so it appeared
Candles lit
Tears escape the eyes of many
Pictures and poetry fill the room
Music fills the void
Goodbyes are said
Wishing they had done more
Finally, seeing her cries for help
The melt downs
The tears
The words she spoke
Invalidated she felt
Misunderstood was her life story
Finally, she rests in peace
Her beautiful, smart mind quiets
She let go, wishing she could stay
Comforting loved ones was her passion
Emptiness and pain were her enemy
Leaving this place was her dream

It's dark in here
Gloomy and murky
Life is dreary
Sorrow overruns
Depression is sinister
Lurching around corners
Apprehension controls
When life is calm
Tranquility awakens
Contentment and joy comfort
Nevertheless, fear engulfs the unconscious mind
Nightmares and illusions deceive
Compulsions take over
Scratching, pulling, afflicting
Unbeknownst in a deep slumber
Discovering the aftermath is daunting
Breaking away is toilsome
Modifying unintentional behavior is wearisome

Into the abyss ©

She knows not what she thinks she knows
Mistakes are repeated
Embarrassed as loved ones observe
Ashamed of her actions
Her support system vanishes
Into the abyss
Feeling abandoned and forsaken
She lets her God take control
As he puts the puzzle back together
Doubt continues to encroach
People don't see her tears
The meltdowns
Overreacting to misery caused by her
Wishing people would not judge
Now she sees who is real
The ones there for the good and bad
The number is minuscule
The pain and hurt weigh on her
She will continue to persevere
Nevertheless, her heart aches
As she feels disregarded
